Wednesday, October 25, 2006 Work your Worth!
I'm a housewife....homemaker...domestic engineer --- whatever the term, it means I'm worth a whopping $217,000 a month (so i've been told by some survey done recently) !
Of course, I've told my Significant Other ( my pride forbids me to call him the Better Half) that it means I've been grossly underpaid for the past 24 years. He merely smiles. I guess that signifies $0/- !!! Oh well..... Today I talked to this woman who has a heapful of financial problems and a fountainful of tears! I'm no Mother Teresa, but as I heard her story, I had so many question marks. She is able-bodied, yet has not worked for many years. She has been relying on family, friends (depleting number obviously!) and compassionate folks around to support her. Why? Is it laziness? Or is it a lack of insight into the benefits of work? While I suspected she was waiting for me to give her some money at the end of our conversation, I decided that I would give her what she needs, not what she wants! I'm out looking for a job for her!!! She needs to WORK --- the discipline of it will strengthen her physical, psychological and financial state. She needs to see her WORTH when she works --- the $ earned will improve her self-confidence, her self image. She needs to be in touch with the WORLD out there --- the community at work will enhance her social life. So.....$0/- from me to her, but I want to give her help that is helpful!
