Saturday, May 26, 2007 Making Money or Making Memories
I'm in the process of moving on to a new country, to a new way of life, to a new dream.
I'm leaving the kids behind (to dream their own dreams) --- and having a lot of stuff to get rid off! Things collected over the years, books that are yellow with age, momentoes that don't mean much any more, clothes that fit the museum more than my frame. It's unbelievable! My motto, passed down the generations from grandparents who suffered and sacrificed to survive and support their families, has always been: Do not waste. Yet I have wasted much! Ahh.... The oversized blouse that's been in the wardrobe, not worn, could have been given to the elderly rag-and-bone lady scrounging around for cardboard boxes every day. The stack of old National Geographic magazines could have been given to students doing their school projects. The collection of electrical goods that don't work so well could have been given to some company that repairs and recycles the parts. So here's my redemptive plan! I will have a GARAGE GIVE-AWAY instead of a GARAGE SALE. People can come and take away the things I'm getting rid off. I will not be making money, but making memories of my moving on!
