Armed for the Army

My youngest son has just ORD ---- completed his 2-year stint in National Service!

Like most parents, when their son goes into the army, there are fears and anxieties, concerns for his safety and sanity...

But after all that rigorous training and regimented life, I am relieved that my son has learned to do some things that I have tried to teach him (for18 years) to do with little success --- eg. make his bed neatly, line his footwear properly, keep his cupboard tidy. Ah...a mother's dream!

However, more than that, the army has taught him:

1. to submit to authority --- obey with no questions asked and no reason given!
(What a joy if this continues at home!)

2. to serve by example --- work as a team always!
(Who cares if you can run 2.4 km in 9 mins if you are so full of
yourSELF?)

3. to show appreciation ---- there's no place like home!

Hi auntie! surely i am very blessed by ur willingness to be engaged with what the youths are doing, n not just brushing it aside to think that its not 'ur kind of thing'. I met u earlier today at the MTIA, jonathon's talk. The one with a mother n her daughter. The mother was very encouraged and envious of u having a great son! keep up the good work... indeed, u are a magnificent mum! god bless! -kaiyun-
